Balikpapan — PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi Kalimantan Timur dan Kalimantan Utara (East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Distribution Unit) has ensured electricity supply to the Nusantara Capital (IKN) and East Kalimantan region remains optimal during Ramadan and the Eid period, with electrical alert status running from 12–31 March 2026.

“We at PLN are ensuring that the electricity supply conditions in the East Kalimantan region, including in the Nusantara City area, remain adequate and secure,” said General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) UID East Kalimantan Muchamad Chaliq Fadli, in Balikpapan on Wednesday.

The company estimates peak demand during Eid al-Fitr will reach 804.8 megawatts (MW), whilst system capacity stands at 976.6 MW, leaving a power reserve of approximately 171.8 MW.

“We are deploying 1,210 personnel to maintain reliable electricity supply throughout Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH. All personnel, equipment, and operational systems are on standby to keep electricity supply stable,” he said.

Chaliq stated that all personnel have been deployed to ensure electricity services remain optimal. PLN is also providing electrical security coverage at 161 priority locations, including 43 mosques comprising 11 grand mosques and 32 priority mosques, as well as transportation facilities and other public amenities.

To strengthen preparedness, PLN has stationed personnel at 95 coordination posts spread across various areas. These posts serve to ensure rapid response to potential electrical disruptions, particularly on peak celebration days.

“Peak demand during Eid al-Fitr is estimated to decline by approximately 0.17 per cent compared to regular days. This reduction is due to decreased industrial and office activities during the Eid holiday period,” he added.

Beyond personnel, PLN has prepared various support equipment to maintain electrical system reliability, including 29 UPS units, 37 distribution transformer units, and 13 mobile cable units. For staff mobility, PLN has allocated two crane units, 87 operational vehicles, and 62 operational motorcycles.

PLN is also ensuring readiness of electric vehicle charging infrastructure for those travelling during the Eid holiday. Currently, PLN UID East Kalimantan operates 77 electric vehicle (EV) chargers distributed across various locations in the Nusantara Capital and East Kalimantan region.
