PLN Electricity Bills Surge Without Notice as Netizens Raise Alarms
Complaints about surging electricity bills and rapidly depleting prepaid tokens have flooded social media in recent days. Several users report paying more than usual despite no significant change in their household electricity usage. The Threads account @bimontoko77 gained traction after posting about their electricity bill. In the post, they stated that electricity and other household expenses had risen simultaneously. ‘Electricity tokens usually last a week for Rp100,000, but this time they’re depleted in just three to four days,’ the account wrote. Similar complaints were made by X user @bebipokcoy, who said their electricity tokens ran out faster than usual. ‘I see, my tokens usually last nine days, but now they’re depleting faster. My usage hasn’t changed at all,’ the account wrote. Meanwhile, user @Vousmevoyou27 only noticed the increased electricity expenditure after paying this month’s bill. ‘Honestly, I just realised this morning why the electricity bill is so expensive this time—it actually went up,’ they wrote. Other complaints came from @NyonyaHutajulu, who reported higher electricity costs at both their home and their parents’ residence. The phenomenon gained more traction after @KapudS640 posted a thread stating they had received numerous similar reports from the public. ‘Exactly last month I made a thread about electricity prices rising. This month, it’s gone up again. It’s genuinely increasing every month despite identical usage,’ the account wrote. Meanwhile, @AyaNgaranna shared screenshots of their household electricity usage history. They stated there had been no significant change in appliance usage, yet recorded consumption had sharply increased over the past two months. The surge in complaints has sparked widespread social media discussions. Some users suspect hidden changes in consumption patterns, while others demand official explanations for the sudden bill increases. As of publication, PT PLN (Persero) has not issued any official statement regarding the widespread social media complaints about alleged electricity bill spikes and faster depletion of prepaid tokens.
