PLN Denies Power Supply Shortage Caused Madura Blackouts
PT PLN (Persero) has stressed that the power outages occurring in several regions of Indonesia, including Madura Island, were not caused by a shortage of electricity supply. The statement was made in response to public complaints about power cuts lasting several hours last Tuesday (9/6).
Manager of the PLN Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) for Madura, Fahmi Fahresi, explained that the situation was part of operational management and adjustments. This measure was taken to maintain the long-term reliability of the national electricity system.
“This occurs because in operating the electricity system, PLN consistently carries out measured operational management and adjustments to maintain system reliability and ensure service quality for customers is preserved,” said Fahmi, cited from Antara on Wednesday (10/6).
Fahmi added that the simultaneous blackouts experienced by residents in Depok, Bogor, Gresik, and parts of Pamekasan Regency in Madura depend heavily on the system conditions in each respective area. Operational needs and ongoing technical works are the primary cause on the ground.
As an anticipatory measure against electricity consumption growth, which increases annually, PLN claims it continues to strengthen electricity infrastructure. These efforts include routine maintenance, improving network reliability, and optimising system operations through intensive coordination with local government authorities.
Specifically for the Madura region, Fahmi confirmed that system reinforcement is being carried out in stages. “For the Madura region, PLN is also continuously strengthening the electricity system and carrying out network maintenance in a gradual and measured manner,” he added.
These technical measures are expected to ensure a stable power supply to support public activities and business sector growth in the future. PLN also urged the public to understand this maintenance process for the sake of better service quality.
