PLN Denies Java Blackout, Says Grid Remains Under Control
PT PLN (Persero) has denied reports of a total blackout on the Java electricity system, confirming that the grid is still operating and under control despite disruptions in several areas. Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL PLN Gregorius Adi Trianto stated that the disturbance was merely an operational issue that reduced supply in some regions. “Responding to information circulating among the public regarding a blackout, PLN asserts that such a condition did not occur,” Gregorius said in a statement on Friday (12/6/2026). He added that PLN continues to maintain the reliability of the electricity system to ensure supply to customers remains secure, while also taking steps to minimise the impact of the disruption. Residents in several areas recently reported power outages of varying durations, sparking speculation about a possible blackout on the Java system. PLN, however, confirmed the Java electricity system is operating normally and remains under control, and apologised to customers affected by the supply disruption. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also previously dismissed claims linking the outages to dwindling coal stocks for power plants. Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia stressed the disruption was caused by technical factors, not coal supply. Similarly, the Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Experts Association (Perhapi), Sudirman Widhy Hartono, confirmed that coal stocks and supply for power generation remain secure, with deliveries to PLN continuing in line with the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO). PLN urged the public to follow updates through the company’s official communication channels or local PLN units to avoid being misled by unverified information.
