PLN declares readiness to support acceleration of 100 GWp solar power development
PLN is prepared to carry out the President’s assignment to accelerate the development of solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatt peak (GWp).
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the company is ready to fully support the acceleration of solar power development as ordered by President Prabowo Subianto.
“PLN is ready to execute the President’s assignment to accelerate the development of 100 GWp solar power plants,” Darmaund stated in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.
As part of the national electricity ecosystem, he noted, PLN will work with total dedication to ensure that solar energy development can be integrated into the electricity system reliably, safely, and sustainably.
“This is part of PLN’s commitment to supporting the achievement of energy self-sufficiency through the utilisation of domestic, green, and environmentally friendly energy,” said Darmawan.
In line with this, the General Manager of PLN’s Dwipantara Generation Unit, Rita Triani, explained that the success of providing 24-hour electricity on Rengit Island was achieved through multi-renewable energy integration innovations capable of boosting both reliability and supply efficiency.
“Previously, the diesel power plant (PLTD) system with a capacity of 2x100 kilowatts produced approximately 72 kilowatt hours per day. After implementing the multi-renewable energy system, energy availability has increased significantly. Most importantly, the community can now enjoy 24-hour electricity and use it for various productive activities,” said Rita.
Through the integration of solar panels, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), wind turbines, and hydrogen fuel cells into the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark (GEET), PLN has been able to reduce the Basic Cost of Electricity Provision (BPP) on Rengit Island from Rp16,700 to Rp12,300 per kilowatt hour (kWh), while simultaneously cutting potential carbon emissions by approximately 99.5 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
“PLN’s environmentally friendly electricity on Rengit Island is not just about providing light, but about how this energy can truly benefit the community. Activities can proceed more freely and the coastal economy is becoming more vibrant. This is how our clean energy serves to drive the independence and sustainable welfare of the people,” added Rita.
