PLN Cuts Power to Shophouse Suspected of Bitcoin Mining in Bekasi

A shophouse suspected of being a ‘Bitcoin mine’ in Tambun Selatan, Bekasi Regency, has been dismantled after it was discovered stealing electricity. State electricity company PLN cut off the power supply to the shophouse and officially reported the matter to the police.

‘Personnel then cut off the electricity supply and secured evidence in the form of cables and several other pieces of equipment to the PLN ULP Tambun office,’ said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Thursday (2/7/2026).

The shophouse was dismantled on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, following a report to PLN. Meter recording officers from PLN found suspicious electricity usage at the location that did not comply with regulations.

Personnel from the Bekasi Metro Police Satpamobvit then escorted PLN ULP Tambun officers to the location of the ‘Bitcoin mine’ in Puri Cendana Housing Complex, South Tambun District, Bekasi Regency. Upon inspection, PLN officers discovered evidence of suspected electricity theft at the shophouse.

‘After an inspection by PLN officers accompanied by police personnel, an illegal three-phase electrical connection was found in the shophouse,’ he continued.

PLN has reported the incident to the Bekasi Metro Police. However, the police have not yet been able to confirm whether the activity in the shophouse was indeed Bitcoin mining.

‘It is not yet known what the findings are,’ said Budi Hermanto.

The discovery of the suspected ‘Bitcoin mine’ shophouse went viral on social media. Footage circulating on social media showed the shophouse being dismantled. Inside the shophouse, a number of servers were found with the electricity still on. The temperature inside the room was also extremely hot due to the power usage reaching 33,000 VA, which was allegedly obtained through theft.
