PLN Confirms North Sumatra Electricity System Returns to Normal
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN has successfully restored the strategic 275 kV Galang-Simangkuk Extra High Voltage Air Line (SUTET) transmission route following the collapse of 12 towers due to extreme weather. PLN managed to operate three 275 kV Galang-Simangkuk Emergency Towers on Thursday (11/6/2026) at 09.39 WIB, thereby returning electricity supply to normal for the people of North Sumatra.
The system restoration was completed by PLN three days ahead of the normalisation target, which had been estimated to last until Sunday (14/6/2026).
Amiruddin, General Manager of PLN’s Sumatra Transmission and Load Control Centre (UIP3B), explained that 250 PLN Group personnel and partners worked in rotating 24-hour shifts to complete various critical work stages. This began with foundation construction and the erection of Emergency Towers, structural installation, conductor stringing, and system testing.
“The connection of these Emergency Towers was a crucial step in the system restoration process. After the transmission network successfully returned to operation, PLN continued the normalisation stages gradually from transmission to distribution so that electricity supply could be optimally channelled back to customers’ homes,” Amiruddin stated in an official release on Friday (12/6/2026).
Furthermore, Amiruddin expressed appreciation for the support of all stakeholders involved in the electricity system restoration process in North Sumatra. Amid challenging terrain and unpredictable weather, close collaboration between PLN, partners, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI)/National Police (POLRI), and various related parties was key to the successful re-operation of the Galang-Simangkuk transmission line.
“We extend our gratitude to all parties who supported this restoration process, including the synergy with the TNI, local government, security forces, stakeholders, and the community for their prayers, support, and understanding during the restoration process. This support was an important part of the successful restoration of North Sumatra’s electricity system,” Amiruddin revealed.
Additionally, PLN apologised for the inconvenience caused during the restoration process and committed to continuously maintaining the reliability of electricity supply to support community activities and economic growth in North Sumatra.
