PLN Confirms End of Rolling Blackouts in Java Since 21 June

The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that rolling blackouts on the island of Java have ended since 21 June 2026. The company is now focusing on strengthening system reliability to ensure such conditions do not recur.

“The condition of the electricity system, particularly in Java, has no longer experienced rolling blackouts since 21 June 2026,” said Darmawan during a Hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 July 2026.

According to Darmawan, the strengthening of the electricity system is being carried out in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through several steps to maintain the reliability of the electricity supply on Java.

One of these measures is the addition of allocations for medium to high-calorific coal, specifically a minimum of 4,500 calories, which is being prepared exclusively for PLN. The Ministry of ESDM has increased the supply by 1.8 million tonnes outside of the regular supply for July.

From August to December 2026, the additional coal supply will reach 3 million tonnes per month, thereby increasing the power storage capacity by approximately 5 gigawatts (GW) above the existing 35.9 GW capacity.

He noted that this additional supply makes the electricity system in Java more reliable than before.

Darmawan also revealed that in 2027, there will be an additional electricity supply of 4.6 GW, which will further strengthen the reliability of the system in Java.

He mentioned that national coal production is currently dominated by low-calorific coal, while the production of medium and high-calorific coal continues to decline.

“With these measures, the constraints in providing electrical energy that previously occurred on Java have been corrected, and the rolling blackouts have been successfully resolved,” he said.
