Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has confirmed that the requirement for 152 million tonnes of medium-rank coal for steam power plants (PLTU) will be met. “The contract to fulfil 152 million tonnes per year with specifications suitable for the power plants, both owned by PLN and our partners, is in a very rapid process and, God willing, will be fulfilled,” said Darmawan after attending the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday. Darmawan explained that PLN requires 152 million tonnes of coal for its power plant operations. He added that Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has already assigned coal entrepreneurs to supply more than 200 million tonnes of coal to PLN and its partners’ power plants. “And we are currently, sir, directly entering into contracts. This is currently in process with the Director General of Minerals and Coal, Tri Winarno,” Darmawan stated. On the same occasion, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stressed that the reduction in coal production quotas through the approval of the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) does not impact PLN’s operations. Bahlil said the government prioritises coal supply for domestic needs, such as industrial requirements and PLN power plants. Meanwhile, the production quota cut aims to maintain the balance of supply and demand in the international market. “So, let there be no more perception that the RKAB impacts PLN. This is the PLN President Director, because we prioritise domestic needs, including other industries, yes,” said Bahlil.
