PLN Confirms 100% Power Restoration in Sumatra After Blackout

PT PLN has confirmed that electricity supply across Sumatra has returned to normal at 100% following a mass blackout on Friday, May 22, 2026. This was stated by Bareskrim Police Deputy Chief Irjen Nunung Syaifuddin during a press conference at the Bareskrim headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, May 25, 2026, regarding the initial findings of the electricity disruption investigation.

‘Currently, the power system in Sumatra has been fully restored. According to PLN’s official statement, electricity supply across Sumatra has returned to normal at 100% and is operating safely and stably,’ Nunung said at the press conference.

Field investigations were conducted on Sunday, May 24, at transmission towers 175 and 176 in Desa Temino, Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province.

Initial identification revealed the disruption occurred around 6:44 PM WIB on Friday in the 275 kV transmission line between Muara Bungo and Sungai Rumpeh in Jambi.

The disruption is suspected to have been triggered by severe weather causing the transmission system to disconnect from Sumatra’s power grid.

During site inspections, the joint team found broken transmission cables around the transmission towers in Desa Temino.

However, the physical condition of the towers was generally reported as intact, with no significant structural damage found.

‘Preliminary suspicion points to technical factors and extreme weather causing disruption to the transmission system,’ Nunung said.

He also confirmed there were no indications of sabotage or intentional involvement in the blackout incident.

‘The damage or breakage of cables or networks is not neat; it appears frayed,’ he added.

Bareskrim Police urged the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified information, including claims that the blackout was due to sabotage.
