PLN Commissioner Confirms Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Readiness
Independent Commissioner of PT PLN (Persero) Ali Masykur Musa has assured the readiness of electric vehicle infrastructure across various regions, including Lampung, which holds a strategic position as a key gateway for public mobility on Sumatra Island. He stated that Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) are not merely technical charging facilities but part of PLN’s service transformation to encourage public behaviour change towards cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy use. “SPKLU is not just a place to charge vehicles. It is a symbol that the energy transition is increasingly close to people’s daily lives,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. PLN, he added, must not only be an electricity provider but also a driver of change towards a cleaner energy future. Previously, Ali Masykur inspected the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) facility at the PLN UID Lampung office. “I see PLN moving not only to maintain reliable electricity supply but also to prepare the electric vehicle ecosystem increasingly needed by the public. This is crucial as the energy transition must be tangible, accessible, and deliver direct benefits to customers,” he said. He noted that Lampung plays a vital role in developing the electric vehicle ecosystem as it serves as a key connector between Sumatra and Java. Public mobility, whether for intercity travel, logistics, or daily activities, requires reliable and accessible electrical infrastructure, he added. “Therefore, the readiness of SPKLU in regions like Lampung is crucial to boost public confidence in using electric vehicles,” he said. During the visit, Ali also commended PLN UID Lampung staff for consistently strengthening customer services through electricity distribution and developing new services based on modern public needs. PLN’s transformation, he continued, must always stem from customer needs—ensuring SPKLU is accessible, user-friendly, safe, and well-serviced so the public increasingly views electric vehicles as a rational and convenient choice. Ali also stressed the importance of public education to expand electric vehicle adoption, as many still require clearer information on SPKLU usage, charging time estimates, costs, vehicle safety, and digital support via apps like PLN Mobile. “The technology is already available, and infrastructure is being built. The next task is to ensure the public understands, feels safe, and experiences convenience. Education is key. We must not let the public perceive electric vehicles as complicated when, in reality, they are very practical,” he said. On the occasion, Ali stated that PLN plays a significant role not only in maintaining reliable electricity supply but also in driving social and economic change through energy, meaning every PLN employee in the regions must continue to build close ties with the public and deliver humane services. He hopes the Lampung SPKLU can be continuously optimised in terms of technical readiness, service, and public education. He also urged PLN to expand collaboration with local governments, electric vehicle user communities, businesses, and the general public to foster a growing electric vehicle ecosystem.
