PLN Cleans 211 km of Electrical Network in Papua
PT PLN (Persero) Regional Office for Papua and West Papua is cleaning the electricity network spanning 211 kilometres of circuit (KMS). This is being carried out through a simultaneous maintenance operation titled ‘Gerebek Penyulang’ to boost the reliability of the power supply. The General Manager of PLN’s Regional Office for Papua and West Papua, Roberth Rumsaur, said the geography of Papua, dominated by mountains and tropical forests, presents a challenge in building and maintaining electrical infrastructure and thus preventive mitigation measures are required. ‘Through this activity we sweep away all potential disturbances to the electrical network so that communities can enjoy a reliable electricity service,’ he said in Jayapura, Papua, on Saturday, 23 May 2026, as reported by Antara. According to Roberth, PLN deployed 767 combined personnel, comprising service technicians, special maintenance teams, occupational safety and health (K3) supervisors, and five Live-Line Teams (PDKB). ‘The massive deployment of personnel is PLN’s commitment to delivering the highest quality electricity service for people in the Land of Papua,’ he explained. He added that besides clearing the power lines, the teams also pruned 716 trees and trimmed branches that could disrupt the electrical network. ‘We also carried out repairs to Medium Voltage Overhead Lines (SUTM) at 454 points, improvements to substation constructions at 91 points, and installation of lightning protection at 18 locations,’ he said. Roberth added that the activity is also part of PLN’s preparations to maintain the reliability of power supply ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH at the end of May 2026. ‘We hope that all religious observances and community activities can proceed smoothly without power disruptions,’ he added.
