Jakarta — The Chief Executive of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, has disclosed that the current national coal stock for coal-fired power stations (PLTU) stands at 19 days of operational capacity (HOP). The availability of this primary energy source ensures that Indonesia’s electrical system is currently in a secure condition.

Beyond coal, Darmawan stated that the availability of other primary energy sources, including fuel oil (BBM) and natural gas, are also secure for meeting the electricity generation needs of the state-owned enterprise.

Regarding gas supply, he noted that natural gas availability for power generation currently stands at 9 days of operation. Meanwhile, fuel oil supplies exceed 9 days of operation.

“Thus, primary energy reserves for gas are above 9 days, fuel oil above 9 days, and coal on average above 19 days of operation. So the current condition is secure, especially for the homecoming period,” he explained at a press conference at the BPH Migas office in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Darmawan revealed that his team had made extensive preparations concerning the reliability of primary energy supplies during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holiday period this year.

Furthermore, the company has already undertaken repairs to electrical infrastructure ranging from substations, transmission networks, to emergency response posts to prevent disruptions during the upcoming Eid holidays.

“We report that maintenance of power generation facilities has been carried out well in advance in accordance with the Minister’s directives. We have also activated emergency posts for substations and transmission networks,” he stated.

“Thus, the current situation is secure, especially for the homecoming period. As our fellow citizens heading home are expected to increase electric vehicle usage by 1.6 times compared to 2025,” he added.

The company is also optimising public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) with capacity increases of 1.8 to 2 times.

“For this reason, we are also optimising SPKLU along the homecoming routes by replacing slow charging with ultra-fast charging. We have also increased capacity by up to 1.8 times, nearly reaching 2 times, so we can ensure that our fellow citizens using electric vehicles for homecoming can travel smoothly to their destinations and return home safely,” he explained.

“We also wish to send a message to our fellow citizens heading home: do not forget to switch off electrical equipment. If you have an electric cooker, please unplug it, and if you have an iron, please unplug it so your homecoming trip can proceed safely,” he emphasised.
