PLN CEO Visits Sumatra Load Control Centre to Accelerate Power System Restoration Following Transmission Disruption
PT PLN (Persero) continues to accelerate the restoration of the electricity system following a transmission disruption in Sumatra. Intensive monitoring and coordination are being conducted by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and the board of directors, who visited the Main Transmission Unit and Load Control Centre for Sumatra (UIP3BS) in Pekanbaru, Riau, on Sunday (24/5).
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that 5,579 megawatts (MW) of power supply has now been restored to 1,770 affected distribution networks.
‘We are closely overseeing the normalisation process on the ground, and the Sumatra electricity system has now returned to normal. PLN is continuing to restore power to all customers,’ said Darmawan.
Additionally, PLN continues to monitor electricity supply to public facilities such as hospitals, airports, and community service centres. This effort is part of prioritising the security of electricity services to ensure critical sectors continue operating normally during the system recovery.
Darmawan confirmed all electrical parameters in the Sumatra system are currently stable and operating optimally, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for the public.
He emphasised that PLN is conducting real-time monitoring of the electricity system via UIP3BS, the operational control centre for Sumatra’s power grid.
‘We are continuously monitoring all operational parameters. With real-time oversight, any developments on the ground can be promptly addressed, ensuring the system remains safe, stable, and optimal in meeting public electricity needs,’ Darmawan concluded.
In Pekanbaru, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo also verified the operations of the Tenayan Thermal Power Plant (PLTU), accompanied by PLN Generation Management Director Rizal Calvary Marimbo, Transmission and System Planning Director Edwin Nugraha Putra, and Project Management and Renewable Energy Director Suroso Isnandar. Meanwhile, in the South Sumatra Load Control Unit (UP2B Sumbagsel) in Palembang, South Sumatra, PLN Distribution Director Arsyadany Akmala Putri led system recovery coordination to monitor each phase of normalisation proceeding safely and systematically.
