PT PLN (Persero) has ensured that the electricity system, particularly in Java, has improved. Consequently, the rolling blackouts that occurred recently will not recur.

The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodino, stated that PLN has not conducted rolling blackouts since 21 June 2026, following the acquisition of additional medium-calorific coal supplies for coal-fired power plants (PLTU).

“We report this with the support of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as the Director General of Electricity and the Director General of Mineral Resources, that the electricity condition in Java has had no more rolling blackouts since 21 June 2026. Naturally, we will continue to maintain and improve this condition together,” said Darmawan during a Hearing (RDP) with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Thursday (2/7/2026).

He explained that one of the steps taken by the government was to increase the allocation of coal with medium to high calorific values, specifically above 4,500 kcal/kg, dedicated to PLN’s power generation needs.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has allocated an additional coal supply of 1.8 million tonnes in July 2026, over and above existing supplies. Furthermore, from August to December 2026, the additional supply will reach 3 million tonnes per month.

According to Darmawan, this additional supply has increased the supply capacity of the Java electricity system by approximately 5 Gigawatts (GW), up from the previous capacity of around 35.9 GW.

“Therefore, there is an increase in supply capacity of 5 GW above the 35.9 GW, which certainly makes the electricity system in Java much more reliable,” he said.
