PLN CEO: Energy Transition Must Deliver Economic Growth
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has asserted that Indonesia’s energy transition is not merely an agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. More than that, he said, the transformation of the energy sector is directed at accelerating economic growth, strengthening national energy security, and delivering social justice for all citizens.
Darmawan stated that Indonesia has significant capital to execute this agenda under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto. He made the remarks during the Leaders’ Briefing 2026: Powering Sustainable Growth for the Future event at PLN’s head office in Jakarta on Thursday (16/7/2026).
“We are fortunate to have a visionary leader, namely President Prabowo Subianto,” Darmawan said.
Amidst a heating global situation, Darmawan assessed that Indonesia’s commitment to the energy transition is progressing well. According to him, the government views economic growth and environmental sustainability as complementary, not contradictory.
“We must maintain a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. And then there is a directive from President Prabowo Subianto, which is 100 gigawatts,” Darmawan continued.
In this process, he explained, Indonesia is shifting from imported energy to domestic energy resources, thereby enhancing national energy security. Darmawan explained that the development of energy capacity up to 100 gigawatts will be a crucial milestone in reducing dependence on imported energy.
He stated that the shift towards utilising domestic energy sources will strengthen Indonesia’s energy security while supporting economic growth. For Darmawan, the energy transition will also produce more affordable energy supplies, allowing the benefits to be directly felt by the public.
“With this, we will be able to provide affordable energy to accelerate economic growth, create more jobs, and bring prosperity to the community,” said the Magelang, Central Java native.
Beyond pursuing economic and environmental targets, Darmawan noted that President Prabowo also emphasised the importance of equitable energy access. According to him, social justice must be realised through concrete actions, including providing electricity to communities that have not yet enjoyed such services.
“Social justice for all Indonesian people is not just words on paper, but must be realised in tangible form, as he said, there are our brothers and sisters who have been living in darkness for 80 years,” Darmawan concluded.
