PLN CEO Apologises for Rotating Blackouts Across Java

PT PLN (Persero) has apologised to the public for rotating blackouts across several areas of Java. The supply disruption occurred amid efforts to restore the electricity system, which is facing constraints in coal supply and technical issues at a number of power plants.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company understands the impact felt by the community due to the outages and is striving to accelerate system recovery so that electricity supply returns to normal. “On behalf of PT PLN (Persero), we would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the rotating blackouts in Java. We understand the difficulties the public is facing as a result of this incident,” Darmawan said on Saturday (20/6/2026).

According to Darmawan, PLN is currently receiving support from the government, particularly the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to ensure the availability of medium-calorie coal supplies needed by several coal-fired power plants (PLTU) in Java. PLN is also accelerating the signing of contracts with coal suppliers that have been assigned by the government. Intensive coordination is underway with the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal to expedite the distribution of supplies to various power plants.

Currently, coal supplies have begun flowing to several PLTUs in western and eastern Java, including PLTU Lontar, PLTU Labuan, PLTU Suralaya, PLTU Jawa 7, PLTU Jawa 9 and 10, PLTU Indramayu, PLTU Paiton, PLTU Rembang, PLTU Pacitan, and PLTU Tanjung Awar-Awar.

On the other hand, PLN is also facing technical problems at two large power plants owned by Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which have caused them to disconnect from the Java electricity system. This condition has further affected the reliability of electricity supply in the Java region. To speed up recovery, PLN together with its power plant partners has deployed technical teams to complete the repair process so that both plants can resume operations soon.

Darmawan stressed that all PLN personnel are working continuously to restore the electricity system as quickly as possible. He also expressed appreciation to the government, coal suppliers, and all parties involved in the effort to normalise electricity supply. “We are working day and night to resolve all these disruptions as soon as possible,” Darmawan said.
