PT PLN Batam, in the Riau Islands (Kepri), has denied claims that a planned power cut would take place for three days, from 12 to 14 October 2026. The statement follows the circulation on social media of a graphic spreading this information.

PLN Batam Communications Manager Yoga Perdana Sulastama said that from Monday afternoon into the evening (12 October 2026), a graphic announcing a planned three-day power cut had circulated, along with a chain message claiming that electricity would be supplied only by the Tanjungpinang diesel power plant and that residents would receive just six hours of power.

“PT PLN Batam confirms that all this information is false (a hoax),” he said when contacted in Batam on Tuesday.

Yoga said PLN Batam had never issued an announcement of planned outages for three consecutive days or imposed a six-hour limit on electricity supply, as claimed in the messages and images widely circulating in the community.

He also said another infographic containing false information had been circulating.

“Information circulating about internet service disruptions caused by damage to the Singapore–Batam undersea cable is not related to any disruption or recovery process in PLN Batam’s electricity system,” he said.

Residents and customers were urged to check for regular updates through PLN Batam’s official communication channels: Instagram @ptplnbatam, Facebook PT PLN Batam, the Contact Centre at (0778) 5702 123, and the Bright by PLN Batam app.

“Make sure information comes from PLN Batam’s official channels and avoid spreading unverified claims,” Yoga added.

PT PLN Batam also thanked all parties for their support, which it said had helped the recovery process run well and smoothly.
