PLN Batam Restores Power, Prioritising Critical Facilities
Batam (ANTARA) — PT PLN Batam in the Riau Islands has been restoring electricity disruptions gradually, prioritising critical facilities and public-service centres to ensure the comfort of residents.
“Restoration is being carried out in stages, with special attention given to electricity supplies for critical facilities and public-service centres, such as airports, hospitals, ports and other strategic facilities,” PLN Batam Communications Manager Yoga Perdana Sulastama said when contacted in Batam on Monday.
According to an update at 8.49 am, all PLN Batam technical teams were continuing to work at full capacity to speed up the normalisation of the electricity system, while prioritising safety and the reliability of supplies.
Yoga also said PLN Batam’s main priority was to restore the system first.
“We do not yet know the cause of the disruption. For now, we are prioritising system recovery and the restoration of electricity across the network. We will continue to provide updates,” he said.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding throughout the restoration process,” he added.
ANTARA observations at noon found that the Batam Regional House of Representatives building and the Batam Mayor’s Office were still without power and using generators as an alternative energy source.
Batam Communications and Information Agency (Diskominfo) head Rudi Panjaitan said the agency was continuing to co-ordinate with PLN, but had received no new information about the cause of the outage.
“There is no new information. At the Mayor’s Office, we used a generator earlier, and PLN power came back on for a while before going out again, so the supply is still unstable,” he said.
However, Rudi said face-to-face services for the public were continuing as usual.
“Services at the municipal government are operating normally. I have been from the first to the seventh floor, and services are running as usual. There are finance and licensing services here. However, online or app-based services are still difficult to access because of the power outage,” he said.
