PLN Batam and BP Batam Ready to Support AI Investment by Firmus Technologies, Batam Strengthens Position
PT PLN Batam and BP Batatam have declared their readiness to support the expansion plans of Firmus Technologies Pty Ltd, an Australian Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure company backed by Nvidia. The company intends to build its first AI data centre project in Indonesia through a strategic partnership with DayOne.
The influx of large-scale AI investment further strengthens Batam’s position as a primary destination for data centre development and digital infrastructure within the Southeast Asian region.
With support from BP Batam as the regional manager, reliable energy supply from PLN Batam, and collaboration with DayOne and global technology industry players, Batam is expected to become a gateway for future technology investment in Indonesia.
The President Director of PT PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, emphasised the company’s commitment to providing a reliable electricity supply to support AI data centre operations while accelerating the formation of a digital economic ecosystem in Batam.
“When data centre investment enters Batam, what is actually being built is not just buildings and servers. What is being built is a new digital economic ecosystem. PLN Batam is committed to ensuring a reliable energy foundation so that these investments can grow, creating high-quality jobs and providing added value to Batam’s economy,” said Kwin Fo.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, stated that the expansion of Firmus Technologies serves as evidence of high global investor confidence in Batam’s investment climate and infrastructural readiness.
“The presence of Firmus Technologies, alongside Nvidia and DayOne in Batam, confirms that this region is ready to transform into a global-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure hub. This is not merely a data centre investment, but a strategic step that will strengthen the position of Batam and Indonesia within the global digital economic value chain and AI ecosystem,” Li Claudia said in Batam Centre on Monday (29/06/2026).
According to her, the increasing investment in the data centre and digital technology sectors demonstrates that Batam possesses a competitive advantage, including its strategic geographical location, available infrastructure, and a conducive regulatory environment for investors.
Li Claudia emphasised that BP Batam will continue to support investor needs by providing optimal infrastructure and investment services to ensure strategic projects are successfully realised.
She noted that the investment from Firmus Technologies will provide a multiplier effect for the regional economy, ranging from the creation of professional jobs and the strengthening of the digital technology ecosystem to the transfer of knowledge and technology in the field of artificial intelligence.
“BP Batam is committed to ensuring the readiness of supporting infrastructure, from reliable electricity supply and digital connectivity to ease of investment. We want to ensure that strategic projects like this can run smoothly and provide a real impact on economic growth, job creation, and the enhancement of Batam’s competitiveness at both regional and global levels,” she concluded.
