PLN and KKP Forge Partnership to Bolster Food and Energy Security

State electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) are strengthening synergy to support the development of the marine and fisheries sector as a driver of the national economy. The collaboration is also a strategic step in bolstering energy security through the provision of electricity infrastructure integrated with marine spatial management.

“We hope that all planned programmes can be jointly overseen until the implementation stage, so they provide real benefits to the community through increased regional economic growth, strengthened food security, job creation, and improved public welfare,” said Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in an official statement received in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday.

The commitment was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on electricity supply and strategic cooperation in the marine and fisheries sector by Minister Trenggono and PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo welcomed the collaboration and affirmed PLN’s readiness to support productivity growth in the marine and fisheries sector through the provision of reliable and sustainable electricity. “PLN is committed to being a strategic partner to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in ensuring that all facilities and infrastructure in this sector receive adequate electricity supply,” Darmawan said.

The scope of the cooperation includes the provision of electricity for marine and fisheries sector facilities and infrastructure, support for marine spatial planning for electricity infrastructure development, data and information exchange, human resource capacity building, and other agreed forms of cooperation in accordance with statutory regulations.

This partnership is expected to serve as a foundation for synergy between the two parties in supporting national food and energy security. “We believe that the availability of reliable and sustainable electricity is a crucial foundation for the productivity of the marine and fisheries sector,” Darmawan added.
