PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Aceh has implemented rolling blackouts across several regions to maintain system reliability. “Currently, PLN is managing demand across several areas of Aceh Province and restoration will be carried out in phases,” said Lukman Hakim, Manager of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at PLN UID Aceh, according to Antara news agency on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

He explained that the demand management was applied in connection with efforts to restore the Sumatran electrical system following a disruption to the 275 kV Muara Bungo-Sungai Rumbai transmission line caused by extreme weather. “This step is taken in a measured manner to maintain system reliability and accelerate electrical restoration in phases,” he said.

According to him, power restoration for the Aceh region will be carried out in stages. “We hope the public remains patient as our teams continue working in the field to normalise electricity across Aceh,” he said.

PLN urged the public to remain calm. Information on the progress of handling disruptions can be monitored through the PLN Mobile application and by contacting the PLN helpline at 123.

Earlier, Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, apologised after power was cut to the majority of Sumatra Island on Friday, 22 May 2026. Electricity supply to homes and various facilities was cut off due to severe weather that caused disruptions to substations and transmission systems, particularly in southern, central, and northern Sumatra.

“We once again offer our best efforts, mobilising all our resources, and we remain on alert so that the electrical system can be restored as soon as possible,” said Darmawan on Saturday, 23 May 2026.
