PLN Accelerates Power Plant Recovery to Stabilise Java-Bali Grid
PT PLN (Persero) is accelerating the recovery of its power plants to optimise supply from other generators and manage system operations to maintain the balance between electricity supply and demand. “PLN continues to work together to speed up the recovery,” said Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL PLN, Gregorius Adi Trianto, in a statement confirmed by ANTARA from Jakarta on Friday. PLN stated that the Java electricity system is currently operating and under control. However, to maintain supply reliability for customers, PLN is implementing limited and measured load management in several areas. The measure was taken due to operational technical constraints at power plants, as well as two large generating units experiencing disruptions that have temporarily halted their operation and reduced the system’s supply capability. “PLN apologises for the inconvenience experienced by customers. This load management is temporary and will be gradually halted as the system’s supply conditions improve,” Greg said. Based on ANTARA’s monitoring, several areas in East Java, particularly Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Gresik, have experienced frequent blackouts since last week, with varying durations. Some of these areas suffered sudden power cuts lasting between two and five hours a day. Last week, several main roads in Surabaya also experienced hours-long blackouts extending into the evening, posing significant danger to motorists. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has asked PT PLN (Persero) to ensure that the electricity supply recovery process is carried out maximally and swiftly so that public activities can return to normal immediately.
