PLN Accelerates Power Plant Recovery and Primary Energy Supply to Secure Java's Electricity System
Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT PLN (Persero) is continuing to accelerate measures to secure the reliability of the electricity system, particularly on Java Island, by speeding up the recovery of power plants experiencing operational disruptions and strengthening the primary energy supply chain to support optimal plant operations.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated during a press conference on Friday (19/6) that PLN, together with independent power producer (IPP) partners, is undertaking various technical efforts to expedite the restoration of two large power plant units currently facing operational issues.
“We are deploying all of PLN’s best resources together with IPP partners so that the repair process can proceed quickly and smoothly, allowing the plants to resume operations soon and strengthen electricity supply in the Java system,” Darmawan said.
On the other hand, PLN is also accelerating commercial and logistical processes to bolster primary energy supply, particularly Medium Rank Coal (MRC) used by several strategic power plants.
PLN expressed appreciation for the Government’s support through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), which has facilitated assignments to several coal supplier companies so that plant requirements can be met more quickly and in a coordinated manner.
“We extend our gratitude for the Government’s support, especially to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, the Director General of Electricity, and the Director General of Minerals and Coal, who have facilitated coordination between PLN, coal suppliers, and electricity business actors so that the process of strengthening primary energy supply can proceed more rapidly,” Darmawan said.
PLN is currently accelerating the completion of contract processes and logistical arrangements with companies that have received government assignments. This step is being taken so that available coal supplies can immediately enter the power plant supply chain and support increased electricity system reliability.
“We also appreciate the coal suppliers who have received government assignments and are cooperating with PLN and power plant partners. Together we are accelerating the resolution of contractual and logistical aspects so that supplies can be optimally utilised by the plants immediately,” Darmawan continued.
Coal supply continues to flow to power plants in the Java system, which will certainly further strengthen the operational readiness of the plants and support an increase in system power reserves.
PLN, as the state-owned enterprise responsible for providing electricity to the public, conveyed its apologies to the community for the resulting impacts, including load management implemented in several areas.
“We understand the inconvenience felt by the public. For that reason, we apologise to all affected customers. PLN together with all partners continues to work maximally to accelerate recovery and ensure that electricity supply reliability can soon return to optimal levels,” Darmawan concluded.
