Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DPR plenary session approved the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance, elevating it from an initiative of the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg) to a formal initiative of the DPR RI.

The approval was taken during the 5th Plenary Session of the DPR, Session Period I of the 2026-2027 Session Year, in Jakarta on Tuesday, after eight political party factions submitted their views in writing.

“Can the Baleg DPR initiative bill on Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance be approved as a DPR RI initiative bill?” said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, which was then approved by the legislators.

The regulatory revision is considered important to strengthen the implementation of Aceh’s special autonomy (otsus), while adjusting to developments over the two decades the law has been in force.

Chair of the DPR’s Legislative Body Bob Hasan previously said that various proposals raised during the drafting process had been incorporated into the bill. However, the final decision will still be discussed with the government through the problem inventory list (DIM) mechanism.

According to him, one issue of particular attention is the proposal to increase the Aceh Special Autonomy Fund from 2 per cent to 2.5 per cent of the national general allocation fund (DAU).

The body is designed to be coordinative and led directly by the governor. Its presence is expected to strengthen synchronisation between the provincial government, district/municipal governments, and other stakeholders in managing the special autonomy funds.

“But this also remains part of the discussions with the government in the DIM later,” said Bob in Jakarta on Tuesday (26/5), as quoted from the DPR’s official website.
