Plenary Session Agrees Labour Protection Bill as DPR Initiative Proposal

The Labour Protection Bill has been agreed to become a DPR initiative proposal. The decision was taken during a DPR Plenary Session.

The Plenary Session was held at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (27/8/2026). Initially, the DPR leadership sought the opinions of the factions regarding the Labour Protection Bill proposed by Commission IX of the Indonesian DPR.

The factions’ opinions were submitted in writing. Subsequently, Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal asked for the approval of the members of parliament in attendance. The members then gave their approval.

“The time has now come for us to ask the honourable assembly whether the Bill initiated by Commission IX of the Indonesian DPR on Labour Protection can be approved as a DPR initiative proposal?” asked Cucun.

“Agreed,” replied the members.

Previously, the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg) had approved the results of the harmonisation of the Labour Protection Bill. All factions approved the harmonisation of the bill.

The approval was taken during a plenary meeting of the DPR Legislation Body at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (26/8/2026). Initially, the Chair of the Working Committee, Sturman Panjaitan, delivered his report regarding the harmonisation of the Labour Protection Bill.

Sturman stated that the harmonisation had been discussed intensively. One of the main points was to refine the technical drafting of the Labour Protection Bill.

“Refining the technical drafting of the Labour Protection Bill in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 12 of 2011 on the Formation of Legislation as last amended by Law Number 13 of 2022 on the Second Amendment to Law Number 12 of 2011 on the Formation of Legislation,” he said.
