Please teach me more about Islam
About nine years ago I (a westerner) became a new born Muslim
in Indonesia and I was very proud.
I married a woman from Purbalingga, West Java. What happened
there before the start of the campaign was very painful for the
Golkar Party.
PDI Perjuangan supporters allegedly ordered female Golkar
supporters to take off their T-shirts. They forgot that their own
Golkar Party, under orders from former president Soeharto, had
earlier stripped Megawati of her elected position in PDI.
Golkar and former president Soeharto did as they liked and
they still do so.
Now, from whom or where can I learn about our Prophet
Muhammad's teaching. I have already learned a lot from my wife
and good friends about Islam. But can I learn something from the
Golkar Party? From former president Soeharto or from his
children? Even President Habibie? Or from Akbar Tanjung? From
their alleged money politics?
Where in the Koran can I learn that their behavior is a good
example? Can I learn in the Koran that our Prophet Muhammad
protects corruption? Can I learn from them how to become a good
Muslim?
Should I learn from the thousands of Golkar supporters in
Unjungpandang, whose slogan was: "Is the predominantly Muslim
country ready for a female leader?" Show me where in the Koran I
can read that a woman cannot lead a country!
Please help me, I'm waiting for an answer to my query. Can I
learn anything from all this? Can all these be the teachings of
our Prophet Muhammad? I don't think so, because I know my Koran
very well. But one can continue to learn, it's never too late. I
was 48 years old when I started to learn our Prophet Muhammad's
teaching, and I'm happy to be a Muslim. I will find my way to
Allah because I learn the Koran from our Prophet Muhammad.
I appeal to Golkar to go into opposition; take your time for
the next five years to learn about all the mistakes you have
made, then we can enjoy together our Koran and Prophet Muhammad's
teachings.
