PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Abdul Rachman, a 45-year-old resident of Teluk subdistrict, was arrested on Friday after he was caught having sex with a 15-year-old Ria.

The girl threw herself at the police in protest of the arrest. "He is a good and tender man, why do you have to arrest him? I'm going to marry him next month," Ria shouted.

The arrest was made following a report from Ria's mother, 35- year-old Murtini, who said that the village playboy has duped her of Rp 500,000 and a 15-gram gold necklace, as well as abducting the girl.

Murtini said that, at first, she did not mind seeing Ria become intimate with the soft-spoken man.

Later, however, she learned that not only was Abdul Rachman already married with six children, he was also unemployed and has for a month abandoned his family.

Ria met the man on a bus from Kebumen to Gombong town. He said he was single and an employee of a real estate company with a salary of Rp 1 million (US$430). (wah/swe)
