Platinum Hotel Balikpapan's Convention Hall Opens in Magnificent Style

Platinum Hotel & Convention Hall Balikpapan officially held a grand opening for its latest meeting facility under the theme ‘The Landmark Platinum Convention Hall Is Rising’. This strategic step is presented as a concrete response in supporting one of the pillars of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia’s Astacita, which emphasises economic self-reliance and targeted efficiency.

General Manager of Platinum Hotel Balikpapan, Joko Budi Jaya, emphasised the hotel’s commitment to becoming a strategic, solution‑oriented partner to the government amid the massive development of East Kalimantan as a support to the IKN. The tourism and hospitality sector—particularly the MICE industry—are required to think creatively to present energy- and cost-saving solutions for government agencies.

According to Joko, government events that have been scattered across many venues have proven to incur high coordination and logistics costs. With the presence of Platinum Convention Hall, which has a capacity of up to 3,000 people, government agencies can consolidate various major agendas under one roof in a more practical way.

‘We see a market opportunity that keeps growing. In the current climate of efficiency, we are applying an adaptive strategy through competitive packages and strengthened MICE facilities,’ he said.

Joko stated that the theme this time is not merely words, but carries deep meaning. The phrase ‘The Landmark’ asserts the ambition that this new convention building is not just an ordinary meeting space, but a masterpiece of architecture and a hub of activities that will become a landmark for Balikpapan. Meanwhile ‘Is Rising’ describes a strong, grand, and dynamic emergence. It signals Platinum Hotel’s move to higher levels of business.

‘The word Rising can also be understood as the ability to rise and respond to the challenges of the times. In the face of government demands for budget efficiency, Platinum is bringing accommodation solutions that are grand yet still adaptive, competitive, and efficient to safeguard the success of national agendas,’ he said.

The Platinum Convention Hall’s arrival has been warmly welcomed not only by industry players but also by Balikpapan City Government officials. The Balikpapan Mayor, Rudy Mas’ud, specifically expressed his admiration for this latest MICE facility, which is seen as arriving at a very timely moment.

In his remarks, Balikpapan Mayor Rudy Mas’ud said the Platinum Convention Hall presented a very grand appearance with a modern and classy design. He expressed sincere thanks and high appreciation to the management of Platinum Hotel Balikpapan for their commitment to building this grand facility.

‘On behalf of the Balikpapan City Government, we extend our deepest thanks. In the context of the IKN acceleration, the presence of the Platinum Convention Hall, which is grand and modern, answers the need for a representative space in Balikpapan. This is a new landmark for us all,’ he said.

Rahmad hopes the 3,000-seat convention centre will be used not only for official and government events but can transform into a dynamic community activity hub, ranging from cultural festivals, music concerts, art exhibitions, to other multisector events.

‘This is a tangible manifestation of private-public synergy in realising Bapak President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita for economic self-reliance that directly benefits the people,’ he concluded.
