Platini to play friendly here
JAKARTA (JP): One of soccer's former greats, Frenchman Michel
Platini, plans to lead his veteran squad in a friendly match
against Indonesia's past-time All Stars in December.
In an interview published yesterday in the Kompas daily
Platini said that the match would be a part of his winter holiday
here with his mates from the French national team. "We will play
either in Bali or Jakarta for a charity commitment," Platini
said.
Alain Giresse, Jean Tigana and Dominique Rocheteau, who teamed
up with Platini to win the 1984 European Championship, are just
several of the former soccer stars slated to play from Dec. 20,
1995 to Jan. 3, 1996. French tennis legend and Davis Cup captain
Yannick Noah will also join the 100-strong entourage.
Platini has been named chairman of the 1998 World Cup
organizing committee. The soccer extravaganza will be staged in
France, one of big names which failed to qualify for the World
Cup in the United States last year. (amd)
