Platform Technology Development Becomes Focus for Today's Automotive Manufacturers
The automotive industry in the electric segment is experiencing a shift from previously relying on specifications, now moving towards the development of platform technology claimed to enhance user experience in daily activities. One such approach was introduced by Lepas, through the LEX Intelligent New Energy Platform which serves as the basis for developing the Lepas E4 EV. “Therefore, we developed the LEX Platform to deliver a more comfortable driving experience, both for daily activities and when travelling with family,” said Lepas Indonesia Product Manager, Lalu Indra Wirabhakti at ICE BSD on Wednesday. He continued that this platform is designed with four main focuses: improving stability, maximising cabin space, dampening noise, and optimising energy efficiency. In terms of comfort, the platform allows for more optimal cabin space arrangement through a luggage capacity of up to 1,334 litres, an additional front storage compartment (frunk) with a 35-litre capacity, and dozens of storage compartments inside the cabin. On the handling aspect, the vehicle adopts MacPherson suspension at the front and multi-link independent suspension at the rear, combined with chassis tuning to improve stability in various road conditions. Meanwhile, the vehicle structure is also designed to reduce Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) levels so the cabin is quieter. Based on CLTC testing standards, the vehicle is claimed to be capable of travelling more than 600 kilometres on a single charge, and supports DC fast charging up to 130 kW, allowing battery charging from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. Lepas also stated that the platform was developed considering usage conditions in Indonesia, including the ability to traverse water puddles up to 525 mm deep and a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature that allows the vehicle to become an external power source. In the safety sector, the vehicle is built using a body structure with 74 percent high-strength steel, equipped with 18 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features, six airbags, and an IP68 and IPX9K certified battery. This technology was introduced to the public through the Lepas E4 EV and Lepas L8 PHEV at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 as part of the development of electrified vehicle technology that is now increasingly oriented towards user experience.
