Plastic warehouse in Cengkareng, West Jakarta reignites after firefighters leave
Fire at a plastic warehouse on Jalan Peternakan Raya in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, reignited on Sunday evening (24 May 2026). The incident occurred shortly after fire department units were withdrawn from the scene. One local resident, Tuti, said the fire had been extinguished and the area was deemed safe by Sunday afternoon. But the calm was short-lived as the fire reignited around 8pm WIB. Local residents panicked upon seeing flames reignite from the rubble. ‘It suddenly flared up again, lots of smoke. We residents were shocked, had to call the firefighters again, they came back but it’s still not under control,’ said Tuti. Now, a week after the initial fire, fire department personnel are still working to extinguish the flames. Danang Darul Fadli, Head of Operational Facilities at West Jakarta Fire Department, confirmed that his team had withdrawn personnel from the scene on Sunday afternoon. He said the decision was made as the firefighting process was deemed complete and no visible flames remained. Currently, the fire department is requesting the warehouse owner to provide an excavator to assist in clearing the materials. The excavator previously used was unable to function optimally and is now damaged. Without heavy machinery to dismantle steel and concrete rubble, spraying water from above the debris would not fully extinguish the fire. ‘That’s why we withdrew personnel briefly yesterday as there was no excavator available, to avoid wasting operational funds and ensure effectiveness,’ said Danang.
