Plastic Prices Soar, Buyers Dwindle, Traders Anxious

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Traders are arranging plastic glasses in one of the plastic shops in the Pasar Minggu area, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026). Prices of various plastic-based products have experienced sharp increases in several regions, with quite significant surges. According to traders, the price hikes have reached up to 80 per cent, with average increases ranging from Rp8,000 to Rp10,000. For example, the price of size 24 kresek bags has risen from Rp13,000 to Rp20,000 per pack. These increases have occurred gradually over the past three weeks. The main cause is disruptions in the supply of raw materials from the Middle East due to conflicts, which have hampered naphtha imports—a derivative of petroleum.
