The prices of various plastic products have experienced a sharp increase in the market. This rise in prices has left traders in Mataram in distress. As is known, the increase in plastic prices is due to disruptions in the import of plastic raw materials caused by the war between the United States (US)-Israel and Iran.

“Oh my goodness, everything is going up, now plastic prices are skyrocketing. It’s giving us a headache,” said Ovi, one of the herbal medicine traders in Mataram, when interviewed by detikBali on Monday (6/4/2026).

Ovi explained that various plastic products have seen price hikes. From kresek or plastic bags, cups, thinwall, plastic bottles, Styrofoam to rubbish bags.

“The small plastic that used to cost Rp 7,500 per bag, now it’s up to Rp 11,000 per bag, that’s the Kharisma brand. Plastic mika that was Rp 200, now Rp 250. Plastic bottles for herbal medicine have also gone up; yesterday I bought one bale for Rp 85,000, now it’s Rp 145,000,” she said.

“Not only that, the price of plastic cups for holding cut fruit has also increased. Yesterday it was Rp 235,000, now Rp 365,000. It’s really expensive; we’re afraid to raise prices in the current economy. Like it or not, we just take a small profit,” Ovi continued.

Meanwhile, Anto, one of the plastic shop owners at Pasar Karang Jasi, Jalan Palapa, Cilinaya, Cakranegara, Mataram, said the plastic price increase has been happening since Ramadan.

“Because of that war conflict, US and Iran. (The increase started) a week before Eid, it had already begun. Up to now, the prices keep rising. The increases vary,” he said, when met at his shop on Monday.

Anto mentioned that medium-sized plastic bags that used to be Rp 45,000 are now up to Rp 55,000. “Thinwall prices have all gone up, Styrofoam packaging has also increased. Everything has risen sharply,” he explained.

Anto admitted that many market traders are complaining about the quite expensive plastic prices. “Yes, they’re complaining, but like it or not (they have to buy), because they need it to sell,” he stressed.
