Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has responded to the increase in plastic prices, which could reach 50%. The DKI Provincial Government will introduce new innovations to reduce the need for plastic.

“So the price of plastic has indeed risen, and to be frank, the regulations governing it are not under the DKI Jakarta Government. However, we must certainly innovate because the need for plastic must gradually be reduced; there must be substitutes,” said Pramono to reporters at the East Jakarta Mayor’s office on Sunday (12/4/2026).

Pramono assessed that the rise in plastic prices would burden Jakarta residents. Therefore, residents are expected to return to traditional methods, such as using banana leaf wrappers.

“If the situation remains like this, it will certainly become a burden. So for that, sometimes we have to go back to traditional ways, use banana leaf wrappers and the like,” he stated.

It is known that the prices of various plastic products have increased in the market. The price rise is due to disruptions in the import of plastic raw materials caused by the war triggered by the US and Israel against Iran.

General Secretary of the Central Board of the Indonesian Market Traders Association (DPP IKAPPI), Reynaldi Sarijowan, said the plastic price increase occurred because Indonesia still depends on imported plastic raw materials. The price hike is said to reach up to 50%.

“We have been monitoring it for quite some time; when entering the holy month of Ramadan, plastic prices started to rise. The peak is that the prices we have calculated have increased by up to 50%,” said Reynaldi to detikcom on Sunday (5/4).

Reynaldi gave an example of the price of plastic bags, which was initially Rp 10,000, now Rp 15,000 per pack. Then other plastics have risen from Rp 20,000 to Rp 25,000.
