Plastic Prices in Indonesia Surge, Industry Minister Requests This Assistance from Industry

The intensifying global geopolitical situation is beginning to affect the domestic industry sector. One of the most impacted areas is plastic raw materials. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita acknowledged that this condition will directly influence production costs.

“There is certainly an impact, particularly on costs and plastic prices,” he stated at JiExpo Kemayoran on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

The rise in raw material prices has the potential to pressure industry margins, especially for small and medium-scale businesses. The government is starting to direct special attention to this group to ensure they can survive.

“Suppliers must provide special attention to small industries,” he emphasised.

Price adjustments are one of the steps encouraged by the government to maintain industry balance.

“They are expected to lower their margins,” he continued.

In addition to price pressures, global uncertainty also increases the risk of supply disruptions that could affect production. Nevertheless, the government still sees opportunities for the industry to endure amid this situation.

“This uncertainty has occurred frequently, and we have been able to overcome it,” he said.

Experience in facing previous crises becomes an important asset for the national industry to remain resilient.

“Our industry’s resilience has proven strong, including during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he stated.

This optimism forms the basis for the government to continue maintaining stability in the industry sector amid global pressures.

“We must remain optimistic that conditions will improve in the near future,” he concluded.
