Plastic Industry Urges Government to Honour Promise of Zero Import Duty on Raw Materials

The Chairman of the Indonesian Downstream Plastics Industry Association (Aphindo), Henry Chevalier, stated that supply chain disruptions, price increases, and the weakening of the rupiah have caused the cost of imported plastic raw materials to surge. Amidst global pressures, the downstream plastics industry is also facing an influx of imported plastic products, stringent regulations, high domestic logistics costs, and elevated industrial gas prices. APHINDO hopes the administration of President Prabowo will support the industry to enhance competitiveness and attract investment. Business players are urging the government to realise its promise to cut import duties on raw materials to zero percent. Entrepreneurs are concerned that if these issues remain unresolved, industry pressures will mount, potentially leading to layoffs, although the sector is currently managing to survive.
