Plastic Factory in Cengkareng Burns, Suspected Due to Firecrackers Thrown
A plastic factory located at Jalan Bojong Raya Number 26, RT 05/RW 04, Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, was engulfed in flames in the early hours of Friday (20/3). The fire is suspected to have been caused by the factory being pelted with firecrackers by teenagers.
“It is suspected due to sparks from firecrackers,” stated the Head of Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat), Syaiful Kahfi, in Jakarta on Friday (20/3).
According to information from security staff, he said, around 03:23 WIB, a group of teenagers were playing with firecrackers near the factory.
Security personnel initially warned the teenagers. However, they took offence and continued playing with the firecrackers more intensely.
“They were reprimanded by the security of the company located right next to the scene. However, the teenagers did not accept it,” Syaiful explained.
It is believed that one of the firecrackers entered the plastic factory, causing the materials inside to catch fire.
According to Syaiful, there were no fatalities in the fire at the Cengkareng plastic factory.
Seventeen fire trucks and 85 personnel were deployed. The fire was brought under control at 05:10 WIB. (Ant/H-4)
