Plastic Factory Fire in Tangerang Causes Estimated Losses of Rp2 Billion

A massive fire engulfed a plastic processing factory on Jalan Raya Kalibaru in Pakuhaji District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, in the early hours of Thursday (9/7). The incident caused panic among local residents and employees who were working inside the factory at the time.

Flames were seen growing from within the factory area. The highly flammable plastic materials caused the fire to spread rapidly, nearly consuming the entire building. Several employees were seen running out to save themselves, while residents living nearby also panicked after hearing several explosions coming from the factory.

Pakuhaji Fire Station Commander Oni Sahroni said the fire report was received around midnight. Firefighters were still battling the blaze as of 2 a.m. local time. “The object on fire is a plastic processing factory. Thankfully, the fire did not spread to residential areas,” Oni stated. He noted that 13 fire engines were deployed to control the flames.

Oni explained that the cause of the fire is still under police investigation. When officers arrived at the scene, the fire had already grown significantly, making it difficult to determine the point of origin. He added that the firefighting operation faced relatively few obstacles because the factory is located near the Cisadane River, ensuring an adequate water supply. He confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident. However, material losses are estimated to have reached Rp2 billion, while the total area affected is still being assessed by authorities.
