BRI Insurance and Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) have launched a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme by planting 7,000 mangrove saplings in the coastal area of Untia Village, Makassar City. The Green Impact initiative forms part of efforts to support environmental conservation and strengthen coastal ecosystems, which play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. The activity also aligns with efforts to reduce coastal erosion, absorb carbon emissions, and protect marine habitats in the coastal areas. BRI Insurance Makassar Branch Manager Asniar Asnawi said the programme is part of the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable TJSL initiatives that benefit the environment and communities. ‘Through this mangrove planting initiative, BRI Insurance aims to make a tangible contribution to preserving coastal environments and supporting the livelihoods of Makassar and surrounding communities. We believe that strong collaboration between companies, government, and communities is crucial in creating a greener and more sustainable future,’ he said. CEO Budi Legowo added that sustainability is not just about business growth, but also maintaining a balance between corporate development and environmental sustainability. PNM Makassar Deputy Branch Manager highlighted that the mangroves planted are a natural coastal shield: preventing erosion, safeguarding marine habitats, absorbing carbon, and serving as an ecological legacy for future generations. The programme is supported by environmental conservation organisations, including the Butta Porea Indonesia Foundation and Makassar City Environment Agency. Butta Porea Foundation Chairman Fadli Padi praised the collaboration for supporting mangrove ecosystem conservation in Makassar’s coastal areas. Educational sessions on mangrove benefits for coastal communities were also held to raise awareness about sustaining coastal ecosystems.
