Gazoel explained that a battery that is starting to weaken usually shows several symptoms such as a heavy starter, dim lights, or the appearance of electrical indicators on the instrument panel. However, this condition is sometimes not immediately noticed during a brief inspection.
For this reason, he advises prospective buyers to check the age of the battery before buying a used car. In general, a battery has a lifespan of about two to three years, depending on the use and maintenance of the vehicle.
In addition to checking the age of the battery, buyers also need to pay attention to the condition of the battery terminals. If there is rust or white deposits on the poles, this could be a sign that the battery is not well maintained or that the electrical system is problematic.
“Sometimes used cars are parked in showrooms or garages for a long time without being regularly started. This can also cause the battery to weaken,” said Gazoel.
He added that some sellers sometimes replace old batteries with cheap ones just to make the car start when sold. Therefore, buyers are advised to check the battery voltage using a special tool to get more accurate results.
