SORONG, Papua: A Twin Otter airplane skidded off the runway at Sukikai airport in the earthquake-devastated town of Nabire on Friday, but no injuries were reported.

The light plane had one of its wings broken in the incident, which occurred some 10 days after a plane crashed at a Surakarta airport killing 27 people.

Paniai Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Taufik Pribadi told The Jakarta Post the airplane, which was carrying food supplies for earthquake victims, skidded about five meters off the runway.

The copilot, Sugito, sustained minor injuries in the accident, while the pilot, Kemal, and a passenger escaped without injury. -- JP
