Plane fails to land in Manila
PHILIPPINES: A Philippine Airlines plane from Australia failed to land in Manila on Sunday due to bad weather and was diverted to a central Philippine airport, officials said.
The pilots of the Airbus 330, which originated from Melbourne and Sydney, decided to land in Cebu province after encountering low clouds and rains that obscured visibility in Manila, airport officials said.
There was no security or mechanical problems and the aircraft was to try to land in Manila later Sunday, airline officials said.
The number of plane passengers and crew was not immediately known.
Government forecasters said no storm has been monitored in the Philippines but a seasonal converging of hot and cold atmospheric winds and clouds has been inducing rains over much of the archipelago in recent days. --AP
