Plan to scrap 'Ebtanas' laudable

From Warta Kota

The government's plan to eliminate the national exam (Ebtanas)
for elementary and secondary schools is worthy of support because
the step will save billions of rupiah, which have so far been
spent by the government as well as parents to finance the exam
every year.

As part of efforts to ensure clean education, the policy is
expected to expedite the learning process in schools and to
enhance the quality of national education, without the parents
being hampered by the financial burden of the exams.

The step is also expected to end the collection of illegal
levies from parents of schoolchildren by education officials,
which has been the practice for many years. The cost of
reregistration that must be paid every year is burdensome to the
parents. In the past, reregistration was only imposed on students
of universities, colleges and academies.

I hope the Minister of Education, Malik Fajar, will pay
greater attention to this problem. He should issue a decree to
stop the collection of unnecessary and illegal levies from
schoolchildren.
