Plabuan Station in Batang with Sea Panorama to Become Operational Again
KOMPAS.com - Plabuan Station in Ketanggan, Gringsing Subdistrict, Batang Regency, is back in the spotlight. Not only because it will resume operations starting 27 April 2026, but also due to its unique charm: the station is located right on the northern coastal route that stretches along the sea. For travellers seeking the sensation of riding a train with an open sea panorama, Plabuan Station is one of the best spots in Java. Not many stations in Indonesia are situated by the sea. Plabuan Station is one of them. With its position hugging the northern Java coastline, the sound of crashing waves is often heard alongside the whistle of passing trains. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 4 Semarang has confirmed that Plabuan Station will once again serve passenger boarding and alighting. This activation is part of efforts to expand rail-based transportation access in the Batang area and surrounding regions. Before becoming active, the station underwent an inspection of the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) by the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transportation on 16 April 2026. The Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, explained that the reactivation of this station provides significant convenience for the coastal residents of Batang. “With the reactivation of Plabuan Station, the community now has closer and more efficient transportation access,” said Luqman. “Customers can travel to various cities such as Semarang, Tegal, Cirebon, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, and Solo more easily.” KAI has designated several regular train services that will stop at Plabuan Station. Its continuity will be evaluated based on public interest and passenger occupancy rates. “This is the initial step to assess the potential of service users in the Batang region. If public interest is high, it is possible that additional services or new routes will be added,” said Luqman.
