PKS's Mardani Has No Issue with WFH on Any Day as Long as It's Productive: Gardening is Possible
Member of DPR Commission II Mardani Ali Sera has no issue with working from home (WFH) at any time during the week. According to him, as long as the public can remain productive, WFH on any day poses no problem.
“Any day, as long as the productivity measure is clear, it’s no problem. In fact, it can generate new economic cycles,” said Mardani when contacted on Friday (27/3/2026).
He gave the example that the time normally spent commuting to the office could be used for gardening or livestock rearing. Nevertheless, he reminded that productivity measures for employees must also be tightened.
“For example, gardening, livestock rearing, and other products because of the time saved from reduced commuting, which can be 2-4 hours if going to the office. Once again, the productivity measure must be standard and strict,” he said.
Furthermore, he also has no issue if Friday is ultimately chosen for WFH. He reaffirmed that such a long break could actually make people more productive.
“If the performance measure is clear, WFH is the same as WFA (work from anywhere), meaning it’s fine on Friday. In fact, it can be productive. Three days not going to the office but still productive with the family can be optimal. The main thing is the mindset and character of civil servants that must advance and be productive,” he stated.
It is known that Interior Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian revealed that several coordinating ministers and technical ministers have agreed to implement one work from home (WFH) day per week as an effort to save fuel oil (BBM). Tito stated that the implementation of WFH is just awaiting a report to President Prabowo Subianto and an official announcement to the public.
“The meeting yesterday lasted almost 3 or 4 hours. Yes, but we agreed to speak with one voice, meaning whoever delivers it, I don’t know who, (the meeting) at the Palace. Whether it’s the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, or perhaps by the Cabinet Secretary. So, we only provide inputs, but I’m not authorised to convey it to the public,” said Tito after a press conference on the PHTC update at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Nevertheless, Tito refused to reveal the day that has been agreed upon for WFH. Because, according to him, the meeting results still need to be reported first to the President.
