PKS Visits Graves of Proclaimers, Draws Inspiration from Sukarno and Hatta's Thought

In welcoming the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the leadership and extended family of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) made pilgrimages to the graves of the two Proclaimers of Indonesian Independence, Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta. The visit to Mohammad Hatta’s grave at Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery in Jakarta took place on Thursday (13/8), while the visit to Bung Karno’s grave in Blitar, East Java, was carried out on Friday (14/8). PKS President Almuzzammil Yusuf, together with PKS Secretary-General Muhammad Kholid and members of the PKS Central Executive Board, visited Bung Hatta’s grave. On that occasion, Almuzzammil and the PKS family offered prayers while remembering Bung Hatta’s service and struggle in leading Indonesia towards independence. “Today, together with the PKS Central Executive Board family, in the context of welcoming our nation’s Independence Day, we are making a pilgrimage to the grave of the Proclaimer. Today to Bung Hatta’s grave, and the PKS East Java leadership and administrators are visiting Bung Karno’s grave,” said Almuzzammil. According to Almuzzammil, the role of Bung Karno and Bung Hatta was immense in leading the Indonesian nation towards independence. Therefore, the current generation must continue to learn from the example, struggle, and thought of the nation’s founding fathers. “The role of Bung Karno and Bung Hatta was immense in leading this nation towards independence. We learn a great deal from the Founding Fathers. From Bung Hatta, we learn about economic democracy, especially Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution,” he said. Almuzzammil stressed that the intellectual legacy of Bung Karno and Bung Hatta should not merely be remembered in history books. Their ideas and the values of their struggle need to be translated into national and state life, particularly in addressing the evolving social, political, and economic challenges. He also prayed that all of Bung Hatta and Bung Karno’s efforts in leading Indonesia to independence would become a great act of worship in the sight of Allah SWT. “May the two Proclaimers who led the Indonesian nation to the gate of independence receive a great reward in the hereafter,” he concluded. In East Java, the Chairman of the PKS East Java Regional Executive Board, Bagus Prasetia Lelana, together with other administrators, also visited Bung Karno’s grave in Blitar on Friday (14/8). Bagus was accompanied by PKS East Java Regional Secretary Muhamad Syadid, Deputy Secretary Bustanul Arifin, and administrators of the PKS Blitar Regency Branch. The presence of the PKS East Java Regional Board was a mandate from the PKS Central Executive Board to carry out the pilgrimage to Bung Karno’s grave as part of PKS’s reflection series welcoming the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence. During the visit, the group also went to Istana Gebang, the family residence of Bung Karno, which is one of the important sites in the Proclaimer’s historical journey. “This is our gratitude for Bung Karno’s struggle, in which he laid the foundation of our unitary state as a sovereign nation. We are here to honour his service and struggle while praying that Bung Karno receives the best reward from Allah SWT,” said Bagus. “Our presence here is also a special mandate from the PKS President to the PKS East Java Regional Board to visit Bung Karno’s grave. Hopefully our presence here serves as evidence that we greatly value the service and struggle of our heroes,” he said. The pilgrimages to the graves of Bung Karno and Bung Hatta were part of PKS’s series of reflections in welcoming 81 years of Indonesian independence. The moment also served as a reminder that the independence fought for by the nation’s founders should not merely be commemorated, but must be filled with concrete work to deliver welfare, justice, democracy, and prosperity for all Indonesian people.
