Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction, Ahmad Heryawan, stated that his party supports the government in delaying the dispatch of Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel to the Gaza Strip, Palestine. He said the conflict situation in Gaza is currently heated. This condition increases risks to personnel safety and the sovereignty of other countries.

“The government’s decision to postpone the deployment of troops is a wise step,” he said in a written statement on Monday, 23 March 2026.

Ahmad Heryawan, or Aher, explained that Indonesia’s involvement in peacekeeping missions has so far been based on the principle of being free and active. Therefore, according to him, negotiation mechanisms through the United Nations should be the most appropriate step and have international legitimacy.

“So that Indonesia’s contribution can run effectively and receive international recognition,” said Aher.

Regarding Indonesia’s stance on Palestine, Aher called on the government to evaluate its membership status in the Peace Council established by US President Donald Trump. Especially since the role of that Peace Council is not firm in guaranteeing the independence and sovereignty of Palestine.

In addition, he said Indonesia needs to encourage the creation of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. He asked the government to commit to helping resolve the conflict peacefully. Because, he said, Indonesia should not only play a role in sending peacekeeping troops, but also engage in active diplomacy in international forums and provide humanitarian assistance.

“Indonesia must continue to prioritise humanitarian diplomacy, strengthen support for the Palestinian people, and encourage a just and peaceful solution,” said this Chairman of the DPR’s Public Aspiration Agency.

Previously, the delay in deploying TNI peacekeeping troops to Gaza was announced by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi. He said the government is considering postponing the dispatch of 8,000 TNI personnel to Gaza due to the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel-United States heating up.

This presidential spokesperson could not yet confirm the time limit for the delay. “Yes, until a time limit that has not been determined,” he said, Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
