PKS: Support or Criticise Pramono Anung Following Jakarta Election Victory?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has reaffirmed its role in monitoring the Jakarta Provincial Government, even as several of Governor Pramono Anung’s initiatives align with the party’s expectations.
Suhud Alynudin, Chairman of PKS Jakarta’s Regional Leadership Council, stated that PKS does not blindly support or criticise. As the winner of the 2024 Jakarta Legislative Election, the party adopts a proportional stance towards local government policies.
‘We support what we agree with and is good, but for shortcomings, we will correct and criticise,’ Suhud said in an exclusive interview with Kompas.com on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Suhud noted that national issues dominating news coverage have led to public attention being diverted from the DPRD’s oversight work on Jakarta’s problems.
‘A critical stance remains, but we do not need to constantly seek differences,’ he said.
He noted that several Jakarta provincial government programmes still meet PKS expectations, providing no reason for continuous criticism.
Free schools, staple food provision for residents, and healthcare access are said to align with PKS’s views.
However, PKS continues to highlight issues requiring serious attention from the local government.
These include flood management and oversight of high-rise building safety in Jakarta, particularly following recent fire incidents.
‘Other issues are still raised. Flood management is also discussed, and building safety oversight in Jakarta is also highlighted,’ Suhud said.
He stated that weak oversight of building safety standards directly impacts public safety, necessitating government attention.
During the interview, Suhud also explained the factors that enabled PKS to again become Jakarta’s top vote-getter in the 2024 election.
