JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PKS Secretary-General Muhammad Kholid said the Constitutional Court’s ruling No. 128/PUU-XXIV/2026, which mandates political parties to ensure at least 30% female legislative candidates, strengthens women’s role in politics.

“I believe this is a good ruling to affirm women’s parliamentary representation,” Kholid told KOMPAS.com on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

According to him, clear regulations are essential for this affirmative action policy to be effectively enforced.

“It seems necessary to enforce this. Without sanctions, the situation will be like in 2024,” he said.

PKS has affirmed its commitment to uphold and implement the court ruling to promote meaningful female representation in parliament.

Previously, the Constitutional Court partially granted a material test petition regarding Article 245 of Law No. 7 of 2017 on Elections concerning female representation in legislative candidacies.

The ruling, numbered 128/PUU-XXIV/2026, was read by Chief Justice Suhartoyo on Monday, 25 May 2026.

Constitutional Justice Adies Kadir stated that this clarification is necessary to reduce discrimination against women’s representation in the House of Representatives and regional legislatures through fair elections.
